Our Founder

Kurruwarl was founded by Luke Jampin Booth in 2023.

Luke is a proud Warramungu man from northeast of Tennant Creek in the Barkly Tablelands, Northern Territory; and Yuggera man from southwest Brisbane, Queensland.

Luke is an experienced cultural consultant, artist, and accredited trainer. Luke has consulted, advised, and advocated on Indigenous affairs particularly in education, training, employment, and cultural arts across various industries and levels of community, government and corporate Australia; sharing his cultural knowledge through art, music, song, and dance throughout Australia.

Luke's passion for his culture started at an early age, inspired by his mother, Jeanette Booth (nee Brunette), a culturally strong and proud Aboriginal woman. Jeanette established a live dance theatre and art gallery in Adelaide, South Australia where Luke, along with his siblings learnt traditional art, stories and dance from respected and recognised performers and artists from around Australia showcasing at the live dance theatre and art gallery.

This influenced and shaped his values and attributes and became an intrinsic part of his life, being grounded in culture, guided by purpose and motivated by passion.

Story of Our Logo

Kurruwarl is the Warramungu word for Brolga, and is the totem of Kurruwarl's founder Luke Jampin Booth.

The logo's design has been inspired by the imprint (footprint) that is left behind in the earth by Kurruwarl captured and reorientated to form the English written letter 'K' and the initial for the word Kurruwarl.

The Brolga in Aboriginal culture can represent transformation, creativity and balance - the logo is a reflection of this representation, transforming the Brolgas footprint, creatively forming a written letter and signifying a balance between cultures, the written English language and Aboriginal symbolism.
